Best Ad Campaign for 2008
We took a vote earlier today to decide which advertising campaign we tought kicked most ass in 2008. The winner, by a landslide, was Discovery Channel’s “I Love the Whole World”, developed by 72andSunny and featuring a one minute ad that we believe to be the definition of pure awesomeness.
Why, you ask? Well, the ad’s music is a reworking of the catchy camp song “I love the mountains” while the video is a mash up of 30 scenes from our favorite Discovery Channel shows, such as Deadliest Catch, Man vs. Wild, Future Weapons and Dirty Jobs, all shot especially for this occasion. This means we get to see spiders, mummies, explosions, tornadoes and sharks, all accompanied by the singing talent of each show’s host. But that’s just the boring part, because 72andSunny also throw in astronauts, Buddhist monks, James Cameron in a submarine, Dilated Peoples singing the chorus and Stephen Hawking. That’s right, Stephen Hawking took a break from bending time and space with his power of tought just for this! Epic!
Xkcd did they’re own version of “I love the whole world” for those of us not satisfied with the original ad’s level of geekyness.
